EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ - On October 11, 2009 the Suburban Chief's Association held a combined LDH and tanker taskforce drill in East Windsor Township. The drill was at a large warehouse on Milford Road. A tower-ladder and large foam unit were at the simulated fire scene. Close to a mile of 5' LDH with six engines was laid to a water supply point were three drop tanks were set up. A nurse tanker was used as well as a suction off load for the tractor trailer tankers. Three fill sites were set up including one at a near by lake. Thirteen tankers, ten engines were used for the tanker taskforce, and one ladder and an two engines were held in reserve and to cover local runs. The drill was co-hosted by the East Windsor Fire Co. #2 and departments from five counties were involved. Companies from Lawrenceville Fire Co., Heighstown Engine Co., Plainsboro, West Windsor Fire Co, Hope Fire Co. of Allentown, Cranbury Fire Co. were in the LDH relay (Taskforce). Engines companies from East Windsor (E-46), Princeton H&L Co., Monroe Fire Co. 1, and Jamesburg FD were at the water supply point or suction off load. Engines from Laurence Harbor Fire Co. East Windsor Fire Co # 2 (E-46-2), Spotswood FD, Lawrence Road Fire Co., East Brunswick Dist. #1 and Applegarth Engine Co. operated at the three fill sites. Tankers from Middlesex County included Cranbury Fire Co., Monroe FD #3, Applegarth Engine Co.,Helmetta FD., and South Old Bridge Fire Co.
Tankers from Monmouth County included Millstone 32-95 & 32-96, Hope Fire Co. of Allentown, Manalapan Fire Co., and Freeold Indpendent Fire Co.
Tankers from Somerset County included Montgomery Fire Co #1 (Bell Mead) and Little Rocky Hill Fire Co.
A tanker from Burlington County was from Chesterfield Hose Co. Tower 46 from East Windsor and Middlesex County Foam trailer were at the simulated fire scene. Millstone, Lawrence Road and East Brunswick Dist. #1 had stand by engines, and Heightstown Engine Co. ladder was on stand by. EMS/Rehab was provided by East Windsor First Aid Squad. Field Communications were provided by Mercer County Sheriff's field comm. and Mercer County Fire Central.
Other support for resource unit was provided in co-operation with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service B10 crew and the NJ Division of Fire Safety mobile logistics unit. Mercer County Fire Police provided traffic control. Fire coordinators from Mercer, and Middlesex county provided support. In all fifty tanker loads were delivered, forty-eight loads were refilled, which delivered 189,900 gallons of water. The LDH taskforce/tanker taskforce pumped water for 100 minutes, and averaged about 1500 gpm. The drill was a success, as the tanker shuttle was able to keep up with the LDH demean. No injuries were reported, and lessens were learned by some and re enforced by others.
